Three Voices from the Well
Three Voices from the Well is Baggage Books first book of poetry published for an adult audience.
It features work from Kapiti Coast poets, Angela Wright and Julie Burns and from Joanna Huriwai, formerly from Te Awa kairangi/ Hutt Valley, who sadly died in 2023 after a long battle with breast cancer.
As members of the OBOD druids Grove of the Summer Stars, these wonderful poets have performed their work to appreciative audiences at various Eisteddfodau over a number of years.
Editor Moira Wairama, also a member of OBOD, was delighted when they agreed to her suggestion that Baggage Books publish a collection of their works in order to reach a wider audience.
“I love that Joanna, Angela and Julie’s poetry is so very different in style and content but sits so comfortably together in this book. The fact that two of the poets have also contributed their original art work further adds to the book’s unique character. Three Voices from the Well is a great buy, offering readers poetry from three distinctive and diverse poets within one book. There is a poem in there for everyone”.
Angela and Julie continue to write and perform their poetry at various events and venues across the wider Wellington region, while Joanna became the inspiration for the children’s picture book Nanny Jo and the Wild Mokopuna, also published by Baggage Books.
